Westchase Houston Apartments

The Westchase neighborhood is situated in Western Houston. This section of town has a large business district that has a total 14.1 million square feet in 98 office buildings, and 1.7 million square feet in service centers and warehouse centers. But it also has a ton of apartment complexes. Some are brand new while others were built in the 80’s and 90’s.

Residents have access to fine dining, shopping, and entertainment. Many are within walking and driving distance of neighborhood restaurants, bars, and major retailers. Residents here are going to have access to major freeways like Interstate 10 and Beltway 8.  Apartments in the Westchase area boast rental rates that are more economical than that of the Galleria area. Rental rates in the latter area have increased dramatically, pushing many renters farther west. So if you find your budget a little low, this district might be a great option.

Apartment Amenities and features  

Many Westchase apartments will feature 24 hour state of the art fitness centers, resort style swimming pools, vaulted ceilings, and more. Your going to find a wide selection of both newer and older cheap apartments to choose from. Older properties are cheaper and there will be some tradeoffs. That means more maintenance requests and a lack of features.  There are many bad management companies running Westchase apartment homes. It’s also just minutes away from the Energy Corridor. The Galleria isn’t to far down the road along Westheimer. This shopping mall has the most high end anchors and retailers of any in Houston.

In addition you’re going to have access to plenty of parks and trails, and energy companies that provide various employment opportunities.

Other private rental options in Westchase

Westchase isn’t just apartment homes. There are also a myriad single family homes and townhomes that make great rental options as well. If you decide to go the private route, here are some details to become familiar with. Expect to pay your first and last month’s rent upfront. Also your most likely not going to get a fitness center or coffee bar. But what you lose in amenities, you will gain in square footage. That sure is a welcomed trade-off for many.

And with a west Houston location, your not far from some of the more popular destinations.   Downtown, the Museum District, and the Heights are all within short reach by car.

Parks and Recreation

All popular rental districts have parks and recreation. Westchase is no exception. While many newer places have on-site dog parks, you will want to check out MIllie Bush Dog Park. It has sections for both large and small dogs. There are also 2 large ponds for pets that love to cool off or chase balls into the water. A walking track surrounds the perimeter.

Terry Hershey Park is one of the most unique spots in Houston. It’s’ not the typical park you probably are thinking of. It runs in a horizontally between Beltway 8 and Highway 6. The park is comprised of a paved walking trail, bridges, and grassy fields.  It’s also a very popular park for bikers. If you check out the park on a map, you will notice that it is sandwiched on both sides by streets and houses.  Many homeowners backyards border the park.

One of the most famous festivals is the Wonderland in Westchase. Have you ever seen 50.000 pounds of snow in Houston? This event has been going on for over a decade.

Unfortunately crime has become synonymous with Westchase. Many efforts are underway to reduce it in the neighborhood. But residents can also play a role. Make sure your car is locked and valuables are not within sight. Roll up your windows. Many Westchase apartments have become blue star certified. Many apartment managers and staff must pass certain tests in order to receive this accolade.
